Casa dei Mezzo Music Makrigialos Crete

Every year in late June villa Casa dei Mezzo is magically transformed into the setting for our Casa dei Mezzo Chamber Music Festival.

Our festival is the only significant annual classical musical festival to take place on Crete and it naturally attracts a great deal of attention locally, as well as throughout Crete and further afield. Indeed, one of the United Kingdom's most influential newspapers, The Sunday Times Online, described the Casa dei Mezzo Chamber Music Festival as 'The most unique and intimate classical music Summer festival in Europe'.

Since its inception in 2006, the Casa dei Mezzo Chamber Music Festival has built a solid reputation of bringing performers of world-class renown to our stage in Makrigialos. Over the years our audiences have enjoyed performances by more than 110 different artists representing more than 24 countries and more than 25 different musical instruments or operatic voices.

All of our artists love and live for their music, and they all take a great pride in delivering performances worthy of any national opera house or concert hall, the proof being the long and enthusiastic applause that follows every item in our programme.

Our programme each year is very carefully structured to provide an interesting range of musical styles, ranging from baroque to early 20th Century, to appeal to our diverse audience. And, in addition to our international classical repertoire, we also feature numerous works by Greek composers, performed by accomplished and well-known Greek musicians.

Then, beyond our careful choice of artists and repertoire, we go further to provide our audiences with a complete and intimate concert experience, such as professional quality sound and stage lighting systems, and enhanced by our amazing Bösendorfer 290 Grand Imperial piano, once owned by Luciano Pavorotti.

Ticket prices are EUR 15 for evening concerts and EUR 10 for lunchtime concerts. Any discerning audience in any capital city in the world would happily pay many times as much just for the opportunity to enjoy performances of the calibre that we present here at Makrigialos. For our festival, we deliberately keep our ticket prices low to attract the widest audience, young and old, and we therefore depend on our sponsors, festival friends and donations to remain viable.

Festival Promotion

In order to generate widespread interest in Makrigialos and beyond we extensively publicise our festival with Greek commercial radio advertisements, shop window posters, large banners and flags throughout Makrigialos.
